Honestly I always thought the way Apple podcast downloads worked was weird. I never subscribed because it takes like a week for your phone to be completely full of storage space from all the episodes. I just download the ones I want to listen to. And I haven’t used Apple’s app for a while because it was always so buggy.
I like a certain number of automated downloads because it's convenient. I like the way Overcast does it where I can change the settings for each individual podcast how many episodes it automatically downloads. If it's a podcast I like to binge listen to, I'll allow it to download up to 10 episodes. If it's a podcast where I pick and choose one or two to listen to, then I let it only download 3 to 5.
Interesting. I would love to somehow gather different people's podcasting habits. Mine is pretty weird - I basically download a month at a time individually selecting each episode, but now I'm perpetually a couple of months behind (I just started downloading November's episodes). Some podcasts I download every episode, like Blocked and Reported, others I'm much more selective. I also use Overcast. Maybe I will throw up a poll on Twitter.
I use Spotify to listen to my podcasts, because of that storage issue and it just made sense for Spotify to be the place for all my listening habits including music.
That's interesting. Mine would often lose my place in my podcast, which really sucks for multi-hour long podcasts, and it was annoying to switch from music to podcasts which I do frequently. I would have liked a separate podcast tab personally, if not a separate app. Too bad because I would have liked to have everything in one spot!
I read to the bottom, clicked the link to comment, and subscribe to NYT, LA Times, WaPo, Boston Globe, WSJ, and my local papers in MN and CO.
I’m real, but a fossil.
That's great! I pay to subscribe to a lot of publications too.
I’m probably a baby compared to you, I’m a millennial but many people my age don’t read articles or newsletters.
I’m a reader though, I read more articles than books, still read Simon Owen top to bottom.
Now you're just making me feel old!

Great read as usual. Does book a meeting option rolled out for all writers? or it is still in testing.
Thank you. I don't ever remember seeing an announcement that Substack rolled it out for everyone.
