One point you should explore more in your research is how Bloomberg made a decision to launch a news service to defend their product from the leverage that other news providers including Dow Jones had. Their terminal product required news and they sourced it from 3rd parties. Building their own to replace the 3rd parties was a saavy but capital intensive decision.
