Cox is hardly a "cable/telecoms behemoth," as even a desultory search might reveal. 125 years old, among the first newspaper companies into radio, then built a network of 30 or so local TV stations, then a cable company with 6 million subscribers, broad stable of internet investments, founder of autotrader.com, etc etc etc...Hard to find a company with equivalent understanding of the local advertising marketplace...

I mean, its cable/broadband/telecom division consists of 6.5 million subscribers and is probably its biggest revenue driver. Sure, it was built originally on local news, but it sold most of those properties off and now only owns a handful of newspapers. Not sure what point you're trying to make since I explicitly said I wasn't analyzing the Cox/Axios synergies. The thing you're criticizing is a single aside contained between two em dashes!
